Rejection for Özlem Çerçioğlu's 'loan request': We will not allow it

During the March ordinary meeting of the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Council, while agenda items submitted by directorates and referred to commissions were being discussed, the request to grant Çerçioğlu the authority to borrow 1.5 billion TL from İller Bank was brought back to the council's agenda.

The request for authorization from the Metropolitan Municipality Council for AKP's Özlem Çerçioğlu to borrow a total of 1.5 billion Turkish Lira from İller Bank has been rejected.

The CHP Group voted against the request, stating that despite previously granted loan authorizations, no concrete investments have been made.

"WE WILL NOT ALLOW IT"

Following the vote, Aydın Metropolitan Municipality CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Kuşadası Mayor Günel made a statement in the council, saying, "We have never been against service. However, we will not allow the people of Aydın to be burdened with debt unnecessarily."

Criticizing the municipality's borrowing policy and noting that no concrete investments were made despite previously granted loan authorizations, Günel said the following:

"The request for further borrowing also came to the agenda during the January council meeting. As Republican People's Party council members, we already granted authorization regarding the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality's borrowing last November. However, the loans granted have not yet been used, and there is no concrete investment to show for it. Furthermore, it is not clear where the investments will be made. Did you conduct any tenders with the loan granted in November? Did you purchase any materials? None of these were done. In November, a borrowing authorization of 3 billion TL was granted. Today, a new borrowing authorization of approximately 2 billion TL is being requested. For this reason, as the Republican People's Party group, we will vote against this request. We are not against service, but against the unnecessary indebtedness of the people of Aydın. What did you do with the 3 billion in loans you took?"

REACTION TO "DISCRIMINATION" IN INVESTMENTS

Claiming that investments made in the districts of Aydın are not equal, Günel stated, "We see that plans regarding investments, especially concerning asphalt and village roads, are not shared with the council and commissions. As 10 Republican People's Party district municipalities, we believe that there is discrimination in investments. Plans regarding asphalt works and village roads have been shared with neither the commissions nor the council. Yet, the current budget of the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality is sufficient to carry out the requested investments."
