The trial of social media influencer İbrahim Yılmaz has begun in Istanbul, where he faces a potential prison sentence of 1 to 3 years for 'encouraging individuals to play fixed-odds or mutual betting or games of chance based on sports competitions through advertising or other means' on charges of advertising illegal betting and encouraging people to participate.

The detained defendant İbrahim Yılmaz attended the hearing held at the Istanbul 24th Criminal Court of First Instance via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). The defendant's lawyer was present in the courtroom.

'MY PURPOSE IS NOT TO ADVERTISE ILLEGAL BETTING'

In his defense during the hearing, defendant Yılmaz stated that he is a content creator and shoots videos by holding a microphone out to the public, saying, ''I hold a microphone out to the public and give money to those who follow me. I earn money from companies based on the view counts of the videos I share. My purpose is not to advertise illegal betting; I earn money through advertisements.''

DECISION MADE FOR HIS RELEASE

Following the defendant's defense, the court announced its interim decision, ruling for the release of defendant Yılmaz under judicial control measures and adjourning the hearing to address outstanding matters.
