Release in 'corruption' case against AKP municipality: All detained defendants

The first hearing of the corruption case against Yahşihan Municipality, in which 11 defendants including five in custody were being tried, concluded on its third day. The court decided to release all detained defendants, including Mayor Ahmet Sungur.

On September 19, 2025, six people, including AKP Yahşihan Mayor Ahmet Sungur, were detained in an operation conducted as part of a corruption investigation by the Kırıkkale Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. While Sungur and four others were arrested and sent to prison, one person was released under judicial control. In the first hearing of the case, a release decision was issued for all detained defendants. The indictment prepared by the Kırıkkale Chief Public Prosecutor's Office sought the punishment of a total of 11 people, five of whom were in custody, for the crime of "extortion by coercion," defined as "a public official attempting to forcibly obtain benefits from people they are in contact with by abusing their influence."

The indictment lists Ahmet Sungur, Celal Yıldırım, Osman Uluyurt, Semih Aksakal, Ulaş Biçer, Yekta Niyazi Yıldırım, Deniz Aktuğ, Esen Yıldırım, Mahir Sungur, Ömer Bahadır, and Zeki Çelik as defendants, and with the acceptance of the indictment, the first hearing began on January 29 at the Kırıkkale 1st High Criminal Court.

According to the report by İsmail Arı from BirGün, the three-day hearing concluded today, and a release decision was issued for all detained defendants.
