Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir is being tried with a request for a prison sentence of 2 to 15 years for the crime of "causing death and injury by negligence" due to the traffic accident in Beykoz on July 9, 2024, which resulted in the death of 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki.
In the hearing held on January 29 at the Istanbul Anatolian 8th High Criminal Court, the prosecutor requested that "the request for arrest be rejected due to Kınık Demir's attendance at the hearings, and that the judicial control measure regarding the travel ban be continued."
According to the report by İsmail Arı from Birgün; the court panel decided to continue Kınık Demir's travel ban and rejected the arrest request from Batın Barlasçeki's family. The hearing was adjourned to April 30, 2025.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
In the accident that occurred on July 9 on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Street in the Kavacık neighborhood of Istanbul's Beykoz district, Fatma Zehra Kınık hit a motorcycle while exiting Baki Street onto Fatih Sultan Mehmet Street.
In the accident, the motorcycle driver Yavuz Selim Öztürk and Batın Barlasçeki, who was behind him, fell from the motorcycle, and the riderless motorcycle hit pedestrians, causing them injuries. While the driver Öztürk survived the fall from the motorcycle with injuries, Barlasçeki, who hit his head on a concrete bollard on the sidewalk, lost his life. Car driver Fatma Zehra Kınık, who was taken into custody, was released by the court to be tried without arrest.
Shortly before, an indictment was prepared by the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Fatma Zehra Kınık for the incident that caused the death of 1 person and the injury of two others, on charges of "causing death and injury by negligence."
In the indictment, it was requested that Fatma Zehra Kınık be sentenced to 2 to 15 years in prison for the crime of "causing death and injury by negligence."
