Resignation following acting mayor election at Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality: 'We stand with you under any circumstances'

Selim Köroğlu, President of the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality Sports Club, announced his resignation from his post in reaction to the arrest of CHP Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe.

Köroğlu stated, "Bahçetepe is my pride; we stand with him under any circumstances."

The following statements were included in Köroğlu's written declaration:

"In light of recent developments, I regretfully inform the public that I am resigning from my position as President of the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality Sports Club. The unjust and unlawful arrest of Mr. Hakan Bahçetepe is not only an individual injustice but also a grave situation that shakes our belief in the principle of the rule of law. Remaining silent in the face of this development would be a denial of my conscience.

"WE STAND WITH YOU UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES"

Standing against injustice and taking a side with justice is our most fundamental human and moral responsibility. For this reason, I have made this decision as a reaction to the injustice directed at Mr. Hakan Bahçetepe. I hope that justice will be served as soon as possible and that Mr. Bahçetepe will regain his freedom. I submit this to the public's information with my respects. Bahçetepe is my pride; we stand with him under any circumstances."
