Allegations of resignation have emerged regarding Namık Tan, the CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for Foreign Policy and Istanbul Member of Parliament.
According to a report by Gerçek Gündem, Namık Tan criticized his party over foreign policy during the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting held last week.
According to information obtained, Tan stated the following at the MYK meeting:
“You are not listening to me on foreign policy. The initiatives taken regarding Syria, Cyprus, Palestine, and other regions are not based on solid foundations. Your readings are incomplete and incorrect. With this understanding, there is no point in me continuing this duty.”
These words from Tan, which signaled his resignation from both his parliamentary seat and his position in the party, created a shock effect at the meeting.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel intervened before this crisis, which arose due to disagreements on foreign policy, could grow any further.
It was learned that in the meeting Özel held with Tan, he promised him full authority.
CHP sources reported that during this meeting, Özel said, “Foreign policy is your field. We will move the party forward along your lines on this matter.”
Following this meeting, Tan was persuaded to remain in his position.
It was learned that after the meeting, statements and evaluations regarding foreign policy within the CHP will be conducted by Namık Tan. On the other hand, the establishment of a foreign policy advisory board under Tan's leadership has also come to the agenda.
