Response from MASAK to Özel: Reports are forwarded directly to the prosecutor's office

The Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance has announced that reports prepared as a result of analysis work stemming from requests submitted by the prosecutor's office are forwarded directly to the requesting prosecutor without being presented to the knowledge or approval of any authority outside the Board.

MASAK issued a statement in response to the remarks made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. 

In the written statement issued by MASAK, it was stated: "It is understood that there is a need to inform the public once again regarding the baseless accusations systematically maintained to mislead the public and discredit our institution. Reports prepared by MASAK as a result of analysis work stemming from requests submitted by the prosecutor's office are completed entirely within a technical process, under the supervision and control of the Board's management levels, without being presented to the knowledge or approval of any authority outside the Board, and are forwarded directly to the requesting prosecutor. Ministry management authorities have no involvement in this process. The fact that they are prepared by authorized assistant experts according to legislation does not weaken the quality of the prepared reports in terms of law and competence. All of MASAK's reports are based on financial data received from other institutions and organizations. Whether the data in MASAK reports constitute any crime is always at the discretion of judicial authorities. The fight against financial crimes is very important for our country and our nation, and MASAK continues its work meticulously within the framework of the authority granted by laws."
