Response to claims that a CHP bus was driven at a female police officer: 'He is hoping to gain from the headscarf'

On April 23, the driver G.G., who was operating the CHP delegation's bus, was detained for failing to comply with a "stop" order, and was subsequently released under house arrest and judicial control measures. The footage had shown the bus being driven toward a police officer.
In his statement, the detained driver G.G. had indicated that the braking distance was long due to the weight of the bus and that the members of parliament had requested that he continue on the route so as not to disrupt the program.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements regarding the footage. Responding to questions during a live broadcast on Sözcü TV, Özel addressed the allegations made regarding the bus using 'raw MOBESE' footage.
Özel spoke as follows:
"This is the footage they spent days saying, ‘He crushed the police officer, the bus drove over the police officer’…
In the raw, unedited footage, the bus passes by the police officer.
Erdoğan’s words, ‘They drove a bus at my headscarved police officer’… He is hoping to gain from the headscarf there…
No one has any issue with that police officer’s headscarf. But Erdoğan has an expectation of political demagoguery through that headscarf. This is truly simplistic."
