Restrictions allegedly imposed by the new director at the Samiha Ayverdi Girls' KYK Dormitory on the Kocaeli University Umuttepe Campus have sparked a backlash from students. While the reduction in food options, entry times, and restrictions on common areas were protested, a promise was made after the demonstration that the practices would be lifted and no disciplinary action would be taken.

''RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED ON FOOD AND ENTRY TIMES''

According to the allegations, the choice of meals offered in the cafeteria, which was previously 9 varieties, has been reduced to 2. Furthermore, it was stated that entry to the dormitory after 23:00 has been banned and access to the garden after this hour has also been restricted. Students expressed that these regulations make their daily lives difficult and opposed the situation.

''STUDENTS' DRESS CODE IS BEING INTERFERED WITH''

The restrictions were not limited to this. Students claimed that their clothing choices were being interfered with and that access to some common areas was being restricted. It was also alleged that using the fire escapes was banned on the grounds of smoking. All these practices caused reactions among the young people staying in the dormitory.

According to the information received, after the restrictions were announced, students gathered and organized a protest during the night hours. Following negotiations with the administration, students were given assurances that the practices in question would be lifted and that no disciplinary action would be taken due to the incident.

While the students stated that they were pleased that their reactions yielded results, they noted that they would be following up on any new decisions and practices to be taken in the coming period.
