Retaining wall collapses in Üsküdar: Building evacuated

According to the information received, a landslide occurred following the collapse of a retaining wall at the foundation of a construction site on Kaldırım Street in the Talimhane neighborhood. As the road in front of the four-story building adjacent to the construction site collapsed with a loud noise, a parked motorcycle was buried under the sliding soil.

Upon notification by the building residents, who evacuated the building immediately and were left in fear, police, fire department, and municipal teams were dispatched to the scene.

While police teams established a security perimeter to take safety measures, municipal teams began work with heavy machinery.

The building was evacuated as a precaution due to the danger it posed.

Security guard Hüseyin Gül, who witnessed the incident, stated: "I am on duty here. While I was patrolling hourly, there were cracks, and I said to myself, 'We'll call the contractor tomorrow and tell them there's a problem.' Then, around 02:30, a truck arrived from Manisa, and we heard a noise. We looked immediately and saw that the side had collapsed. I was going to pass by there ten minutes later; we had a narrow escape. There was no damage to the building; because the retaining wall at the construction site collapsed, it reached up to the building, but there was no damage to the building itself. They evacuated the building, and no one is trapped."
