POST FROM ÜMİT ÖZDAĞ: ONE OF THE KEMALIST OFFICERS PURGED AFTER JULY 15

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ included the following statements in a post on his social media account following the news of Şağban's death:

Güven Şağban, one of our soldiers called to duty for the homeland before July 15, who put on his uniform that night and went to the Gendarmerie General Command, only to be taken hostage by the FETÖ gang—a Gendarmerie Staff Colonel, Head of the Planning and Security Department of the Gendarmerie Intelligence Command, lawyer, and member of the Military High Administrative Court (AYİM)—has passed away. May God have mercy on him.

After July 15, Güven Şağban became one of the Kemalist officers to be purged.

The dishonorable person who held the weapon was the FETÖ member Erkan Öktem, who shot Counter-Terrorism Department Head Turgut Aslan in the head. Öktem had also killed the protection officer Hasan Gülhan. Despite camera footage, Öktem denied it, saying, "I didn't do it." The court sentenced Öktem to life imprisonment. The real fight against FETÖ will be carried out by the Zafer Party.
