Retired technician who went missing on Marmara Island found dead in the sea

After 58-year-old Yahya Çelik went missing following his departure from his home in Merkez Neighborhood on the night of Sunday, June 7, his family reported the situation to the police and filed a missing person report. Following the notification, police and Coast Guard teams launched a large-scale search operation.

As part of the investigation, MOBESE cameras in the district and security footage from surrounding businesses were carefully examined. After camera records showed Çelik last walking in the direction of the fill pier, search efforts were concentrated in that area.

Security forces received a report that an unresponsive person was in the water under the pier. Teams arriving at the scene, with the support of the Coast Guard, recovered the lifeless body from the sea. Identification confirmed that the deceased was the missing Yahya Çelik.

While the cause of Çelik's death has not yet been determined, initial assessments by the police suggest he may have lost his balance and fallen into the sea. Following the work of the prosecutor and crime scene investigation teams, the body was sent to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy. A multi-faceted investigation into the developments is ongoing.
