Rize received the most rainfall in September, Kilis the least
Last month, the highest rainfall was recorded in Rize with 141.6 kilograms per square meter, while the lowest was recorded in Kilis with 11 kilograms per square meter.

According to information compiled from the '2024 September Spatial Precipitation Report' data of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change's General Directorate of Meteorology, rainfall across Turkey in September was above both the long-term average and last year's figures.
Accordingly, the long-term September precipitation average covering the 1991-2020 period was calculated as 24.9 kilograms per square meter.
Last September, 16.7 kilograms of rainfall fell. The amount of precipitation in the same period this year was 33.8 kilograms.
There was an increase of 36 percent in precipitation compared to the norm, and an increase of more than 100 percent compared to September of last year.
In September, precipitation increased by more than 100 percent compared to the long-term average in the vicinity of İzmir, Manisa, Konya, Karaman, Mersin, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Çorum, Nevşehir, Aksaray, Niğde, and Samsun, in the east of Antalya, in the entire Southeastern Anatolia Region except for Gaziantep and Kilis, and in the vicinity of Tunceli and Erzincan and the east of the Eastern Anatolia Region.
In the vicinity of Kütahya, Denizli, Afyonkarahisar, Kastamonu, Ordu, and Giresun, precipitation decreased by more than 40 percent compared to the norm.
HIGHEST RAINFALL IN 65 YEARS IN HAKKARİ AND ŞIRNAK
In terms of regional precipitation, the Marmara Region received normal rainfall, while other regions received above-normal rainfall.
The highest increase compared to the norm, at over 100 percent, was determined in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions. Thus, the Eastern Anatolia Region's September rainfall reached its highest level in the last 15 years.
In terms of provincial rainfall last month, the highest precipitation was seen in Rize with 141.6 kilograms per square meter, and in Hakkari with an increase of approximately 5 times compared to the long-term average.
The lowest rainfall was observed in Kilis with 11 kilograms per square meter, and the highest decrease compared to the norm was observed in Karabük with 40 percent. The highest September rainfall of the last 65 years was recorded in Hakkari and Şırnak.
While the number of rainy days was calculated as 4.4 in the 1991-2020 September average, it was 6.1 days on average across Turkey in September this year.
Istanbul, Kastamonu, Sinop, Samsun, Erzurum, Kars, Ağrı, Iğdır, and the Eastern Black Sea Region received rainfall in the range of 10-15 days. Rainfall fell below 3 days in the coastal parts of the Aegean Region, the vicinity of Uşak and Afyonkarahisar, and the entire Southeastern Anatolia Region.
