Robbery, theft, murder... Terror in İzmir: 2 dead, 1 injured

In İzmir, a suspect named Bülent Şengün first robbed and killed a taxi driver, then stole a passing light commercial vehicle and fled. Şengün entered a market with the stolen vehicle and attempted a robbery, but shot and critically injured market employee İlayda Algar, who resisted him. That same night, Şengün also robbed and killed Engin K., who was withdrawing money from an ATM, before fleeing the scene.

Bülent Şengün boarded a taxi in İzmir's Ayrancılar neighborhood, robbed the driver, Arif Karabacak, and shot him in the back of the neck. After killing Karabacak, Şengün took the money in the taxi and fled.

ATTEMPTED TO ROB A MARKET

While on the road, Şengün hijacked a light commercial vehicle whose driver is still unknown and used it to enter a market in the Fevzi Çakmak neighborhood of Torbalı district. Attempting to rob the market, Şengün shot İlayda Algar, who resisted him, and fled the scene.

OPERATION LAUNCHED

Following these consecutive incidents, security forces were put on alert. Gendarmerie and police teams launched a large-scale operation to capture the suspect. That same night, Engin K., who was withdrawing money from an ATM near Paşaköprü Cemetery in the Karabağlar district, was also robbed and shot to death by Bülent Şengün.

As Şengün fled toward the Gümüldür neighborhood after the incidents, he was tracked by teams from the Menderes District Police Department Crime Prevention and Investigation Bureau. The suspect was caught and taken into custody following a pursuit.

NARCOTIC PILLS SEIZED DURING SEARCH

During a search conducted by the police, 13 narcotic pills known as 'ecstasy' were found on Bülent Şengün. It was determined that Şengün was under the influence of narcotics while committing the crimes.

While Arif Karabacak and Engin K. lost their lives in the incidents, it was learned that market employee İlayda Algar is in critical condition and has been admitted to intensive care at Dokuz Eylül University Hospital.

Bülent Şengün, who was taken into custody, was transferred to the İzmir Public Security Branch Directorate after processing. A large-scale investigation into the incident is ongoing.

RELEASED ON PROBATION

It was stated that the individual who robbed and shot a person withdrawing money from an ATM had previously received a life sentence for 'murder' but had been released on probation.

Police teams caught the attacker on the airport road with the vehicle he had hijacked and the weapon used in the crime.

It was stated that the suspect would be referred to the courthouse after his processing at the police and gendarmerie stations.

It was determined that Bülent Ş., who has a criminal record for various offenses, stated in his testimony that he is a drug addict and committed the murders to buy drugs.

BROUGHT TO THE COURTHOUSE

The attacker, who was transferred to the İzmir Public Security Branch Directorate, has been brought to the courthouse.
