Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Child Development Department at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University's Faculty of Education, who went missing after leaving her dormitory in Van on September 27, 2024, and whose lifeless body was discovered on the shore of the Mollakasım neighborhood on October 15, 2024, was commemorated in her hometown of Diyarbakır on the first anniversary of her death. A group gathered with the participation of the Kabaiş family and walked to Rojin's grave in the Yeniköy cemetery.
Speaking at Rojin Kabaiş's grave, her sister Elif Kabaiş stated that one year had passed since her sister's death, saying, "They took her youth, her dreams, and her future from us. The fire inside us has not gone out since that day. Rojin did not commit suicide. I say this because we know that girl's life, her hopes, her dreams, and her future. Because I am her sister. Because she was my roommate. Whoever destroyed that young body and those dreams will be held accountable before justice."
Following the statement, the group dispersed after prayers were recited.
