RTÜK member Taşçı explains: 'It is not really possible for RTÜK to access Gezi records from 12 years ago'
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has placed the media under scrutiny as part of the Gezi Park investigation launched against talent manager Ayşe Barım. The prosecutor's office sent a letter to RTÜK requesting that broadcast records of media organizations that "made propaganda-style broadcasts" during the Gezi Park protests 12 years ago be sent to the investigation file. RTÜK member İlhan Taşçı stated in a social media post that it is not really possible for this request to be fulfilled.

While the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has included the media in its investigation into Ayşe Barım as part of the Gezi Park probe, it requested that RTÜK send the records of media organizations that "made propaganda-style broadcasts" during the Gezi Park protests 12 years ago.
Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) member İlhan Taşcı stated in a post on his social media account regarding the request, "Even if the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has requested television footage as part of the Gezi investigation, the RTÜK archive does not go back that many years. Only records of files that have been reported on or are the subject of judicial proceedings are kept in storage."
"IT IS NOT LEGALLY VERY POSSIBLE"
Stating that RTÜK only keeps records regularly for a period of one year, Taşcı noted, "After the one-year period, the system gradually deletes the records." In the continuation of his statement, Taşcı said, "Furthermore, in accordance with Article 25 of Law No. 6112, private media service providers are obligated to keep records of every broadcast they make for a period of one year. Therefore, it is not legally very possible to obtain such long-term records from broadcasters either."

While a Gezi investigation was launched against talent manager Ayşe Barım, Barım was accused of being one of the planners of the Gezi Park protests that took place in 2013. Following the arrest of Ayşe Barım, the summoning of actors such as Halit Ergenç, Mehmet Günsür, Rıza Kocaoğlu, and Bergüzar Korel, who participated in the Gezi Park protests 12 years ago, to give statements also drew attention.
