The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice has ruled for the acquittal of defendants Mustafa Demirci and Bülent Açıkgöz, and sentenced defendant Halil İbrahim Demirci to 25 years in prison in the murder case of university student and motorcycle courier Samet Özgül.

The family of Samet Özgül, who was stabbed to death in Ankara, reacted to the 'discretionary reduction' and 'acquittal' decisions by stating, "Is this justice? I sent emails to the Minister of Justice every day. Was this the justice? Security inside almost beat me while throwing me out. As a family and as the public, we will never accept this."

Gazi University History Department student and motorcycle courier Samet Özgül was assaulted and stabbed in the throat by 3 people he had an argument with while riding his motorcycle in the Etlik district of Ankara on the night of November 5, 2022.
