Şamil Tayyar reacts to judge's 'clown' remark in IMM trial: 'It should not be normalized'

The 61st hearing of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) trial held in Silivri began in a tense atmosphere due to mutual arguments in the courtroom. New decisions made during the hearing and the dialogues that took place raised the tension in the hall.

DEFENSE PROCEDURE AND TIME LIMITS CHANGED

During the hearing, the court panel changed the order of the defense. It was also stated that defense time limits were restricted in line with the goal of completing the trial by July 9.

Following these decisions, arguments broke out in the courtroom.

EKREM İMAMOĞLU REMOVED FROM THE COURTROOM

Tension arose between Ekrem İmamoğlu, who reacted to the decisions made by the court panel, and the judges.

Following these developments, it was reported that Ekrem İmamoğlu was removed from the courtroom by the court panel.

ARGUMENT BETWEEN CHP DEPUTIES AND THE PRESIDING JUDGE

CHP deputies Suat Özçağdaş and Sezgin Tanrıkulu, who were following the hearing, also reacted to the court panel's decisions.

At this point, it was stated that the presiding judge used the expression, "No one can engage in clownery here just because they are a deputy," toward the CHP deputies.

These words by the presiding judge became a subject of public debate.

STATEMENT FROM AK PARTY'S ŞAMİL TAYYAR

Former AK Party Deputy Şamil Tayyar also evaluated the developments in the hearing in a post on his social media account.

In his post, Tayyar claimed that Ekrem İmamoğlu tried to act like a "president" rather than a defendant throughout the hearing, stating that he raised the tension from time to time.

Arguing that being in the background during recent debates on absolute nullity might have bothered İmamoğlu, Tayyar claimed that the tension in the hearing increased for this reason.

"BEING A DEPUTY DOES NOT GIVE THE RIGHT TO DISRUPT THE COURTROOM"

Şamil Tayyar alleged that CHP deputy Suat Özçağdaş reacted to the presiding judge and tried to undermine the authority of the court.

Stating that being a deputy does not give one the right to disrupt order in a courtroom, Tayyar expressed that he did not find this attitude correct.

"THE EXPRESSION USED BY THE JUDGE IS ALSO WRONG"

Şamil Tayyar also criticized the expression, "No one can engage in clownery here just because they are a deputy," used by the presiding judge.

While stating that the presiding judge might have been overwhelmed due to the tension, Tayyar noted that these words were still not correct.

In his post, Tayyar noted that he thought it would be appropriate for the presiding judge to correct the expression and admit the error, stating that such expressions should not be normalized.

"NEW REGULATION MAY BE ON THE AGENDA"

Şamil Tayyar also argued that a new regulation could be introduced to prevent similar incidents in hearings.

Tayyar stated that in trials where nerves are this frayed, not allowing deputies into the courtroom or holding hearings without spectators could be evaluated.

As an alternative, Tayyar stated that presiding judges should act more cool-headedly against provocations, drawing attention to the importance of remaining calm against incitement until a verdict is reached.

At the end of his statement, Şamil Tayyar expressed that developments that could cast a shadow over the case should be avoided so that the trial can continue in a healthy manner.
