Sausages containing 'equine' meat fed to miners and prisoners: Dates and amounts revealed

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry detected 'equine meat' and 'offal' in the products of many sausage companies. Following the detection, the ministry shared the list. Research revealed that these sausages were purchased by state institutions. These are the institutions responsible for miners and prisoners.

MEAT SENT TO MINERS

The Procurement Branch Directorate of the Aegean Lignite Operations under the General Directorate of Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKİ) has purchased meat products 9 times since March 9, 2023, from Aydeniz Et Ve Hayvancılık Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi, a company in whose sausages the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry detected 'equine' meat. The directorate purchased products under the names of lamb meat, beef leg, and hamburger patties from this company via 'direct procurement' until August 9, 2024.

The dates and amounts of the purchases are as follows:

March 9, 2023: 171 thousand lira

May 2, 2023: 125 thousand lira

August 25, 2023: 343 thousand lira

September 8, 2023: 44 thousand lira

October 11, 2023: 58 thousand lira

November 27, 2023: 66 thousand 150 lira

December 29, 2023: 36 thousand 660 lira

April 2, 2024: 266 thousand lira

August 9, 2024: 27 thousand lira

MEAT SENT TO PRISONERS

According to the report in PolitikYol, the Accounting Unit of the Department of Prison Workshops of the Institution of Penal Execution Institutions and Detention Houses also purchased sausages from another company on the list announced by the ministry. The institution purchased sausages 3 times on January 8, January 15, and February 15, 2024, from Akdaş Et Ürünleri, in whose products 'equine' meat was detected. This also took place in the form of 'direct procurement'.

The dates and amounts of the purchases are as follows:

January 8, 2024: 6 thousand 600 lira

January 15, 2024: 16 thousand 170 lira

February 15, 2024: 19 thousand lira
