Scandal in Antalya! Young man who couldn't get his salary subjected to torture... Teeth broken, forced to eat insects

22-year-old Vedat K. was held captive, beaten for 3 days, forced to eat insects, and had his teeth broken after he took 15 thousand liras from his boss's desk, claiming he had not been paid his accumulated salary of 70 thousand liras at his workplace in Antalya. Vedat K., who secretly obtained photos taken during the torture from a phone and filed a complaint, said he wants the suspects, who are being tried without arrest, to receive the harshest punishment.

THEY COMMITTED EVERY KIND OF TORTURE AND RECORDED IT

Vedat K. came from the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa to work at an industrial site in the Kepez district of Antalya in 2020. Working there for about 10 months, Vedat K. allegedly began to receive his salary in incomplete amounts. After a while, Vedat K. asked his employer for the unpaid wages. Receiving a negative response each time, Vedat K. took 15 thousand liras belonging to his boss from the desk at the workplace in exchange for his 70 thousand lira accumulated debt and went to Istanbul. Unable to reach Vedat K., the business owners contacted his family. Upon this, Vedat K.'s older brothers told him to return the money he had taken. Vedat K. listened to his brothers, returned to Antalya, and handed over the 15 thousand liras to the business owners. There, Vedat K. was beaten, tied to a chair by A.T., O.T., S.T., and A.A., and locked in a warehouse. Subjected to various forms of torture for 3 days, Vedat K.'s teeth were broken, he sustained cuts on his body, was kept with his hands and arms tied, and was forced to eat cockroaches while his mouth was held open. The suspects also recorded their actions with a mobile phone.

HE CONTINUED TO WORK AT THE SAME WORKPLACE

Realizing that the condition of Vedat K., whom they kept locked in the warehouse, was deteriorating, the suspects waited for his wounds to heal. Because his wounds had healed and he had no evidence, Vedat K. could not file a complaint. Continuing to work at the same workplace, Vedat K. obtained the photos taken on the suspects' mobile phone while he was being tortured. Escaping from the workplace and returning to his hometown, Vedat K. showed the photos as evidence and filed a complaint. The suspects were released after their statements were taken.

'I WANT JUSTICE'

A lawsuit was filed against the suspects at the Antalya 6th High Criminal Court. The defendants, who are being tried without arrest and attended the 10th hearing of the case, claimed they were innocent. Vedat K., who came to Antalya from his hometown of Suruç to attend the hearing, said he wanted the suspects to receive the harshest punishment so they could not do similar things to others. The hearing was adjourned to December 25.

"I COULD NOT FILE A COMPLAINT WHEN THERE WERE NO MARKS LEFT ON MY BODY"

Making a statement after the hearing, Vedat K. said, "They started holding back some of my money for 7-8 months. When I asked for my money and couldn't get it, I took 15 thousand liras and went to Istanbul. I told them I was taking it, and I told him too. However, upon my family's request, I brought the money back and returned it. At that moment, they held me there and started torturing me. They tortured me in different ways until morning on the first night. When my condition worsened at the end of the 3rd day, they tried to heal me. They let me go when my wounds healed. However, I could not go and file a complaint when there were no marks left on my body."

"THEY TOOK THEIR STATEMENTS AND RELEASED THEM"

Stating that he wants the case to end as soon as possible, Vedat K. said, "I continued to work there for another 8 months. During this time, I secretly obtained the photos they took on their phones while they were torturing me. Then I fled to my hometown and filed a complaint. However, they took their statements and released them. In the current trial, the report from the Council of Forensic Medicine is awaited. I want them to receive the maximum penalty. I want justice. I am pursuing this case so that others do not experience the same things tomorrow."
