Scandalous claim in 'yellow serum' tragedy: The doctor was actually unlicensed!

A new detail has emerged regarding the clinic where a 38-year-old patient, who fell ill after being administered a 'yellow serum'—commonly known as an 'atom' among the public—and subsequently passed away at the hospital he was rushed to, received the treatment in Afyonkarahisar. 

It is alleged that one of the partners of the clinic was tried and had his medical license revoked in 2022 for swapping the blood of an intoxicated businessman while he was working at a state hospital.

The incident occurred on January 13 at a private clinic in the city center. According to the allegations, Mehmet Gündoğan, a 38-year-old father of two who owned a company in the furniture sector and was preparing for a pilgrimage to Mecca, visited the clinic with flu symptoms. There, a yellow serum was administered to Gündoğan without any prior medical examination. 

CLAIMS OF 'NO INTERVENTION'

However, as the serum was nearing its end, Gündoğan stated that he was having difficulty breathing and fell ill. It is alleged that the clinic staff were unable to intervene in Gündoğan's condition. 

About 10 minutes later, the friend who had accompanied Gündoğan as an attendant saw his condition and called the 112 Emergency Call Center for help. 

Gündoğan, who was taken to Afyonkarahisar State Hospital by an ambulance that arrived at the clinic following the report, was admitted to intensive care after receiving medical intervention. However, Gündoğan passed away 20 hours after being admitted to the intensive care unit.

THE DOCTOR TRIED IN A CASE WITH 7 DEFENDANTS HAD HIS LICENSE REVOKED

A claim that has surfaced regarding the clinic where the incident took place is staggering.

It is alleged that one of the partners of the clinic at the center of the claims is the same doctor who was tried in connection with the allegation that 'the blood test results of a businessman, B.B., were swapped' after he was taken to a state hospital following an intoxicated traffic accident in 2022. 

The doctor, named Mert B., was one of the 7 defendants in the case opened at the Afyonkarahisar 2nd High Criminal Court, and he had previously made headlines when his medical license was revoked following the trial.

HIS NAME WAS REMOVED FROM THE SIGN AFTER HIS LICENSE WAS REVOKED, BUT HE CONTINUED TO WORK

It was stated that while Mert B.'s case was ongoing, his employment at the state hospital was terminated within the framework of an administrative investigation. It was noted that after his license was revoked, Mert B. opened the clinic where the yellow serum tragedy occurred in the Uydukent district together with another doctor and began operating it. 

Subsequently, when Mert B.'s license was revoked by a court order, it is alleged that his name was removed from the clinic's sign following complaints made to the Provincial Health Directorate, but the individual continued to work there under the title of doctor. 

Meanwhile, it was reported that the investigation launched by the Provincial Health Directorate regarding the incident in which the tragedy occurred is ongoing.
