Gülşah Durbay, the Mayor of the Şehzadeler district of Manisa, has passed away at the city hospital where she had been receiving treatment for cancer for some time.

The death of Durbay, who had been kept in intensive care for approximately 12 days and was being treated while connected to a ventilator, has left her family, loved ones, and political circles in deep sorrow. Following the tragic news, a scandalous post came from Özgür Çelik, a Sultanbeyli delegate who was expelled from the CHP.

Özgür Çelik, a Sultanbeyli delegate who was on the list of Gürsel Tekin—who was appointed as a trustee to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency administration—and who was decided to be permanently expelled from the party on October 24 based on the provision in Article 68/1-b of the CHP bylaws regarding "engaging in attitudes and behaviors incompatible with the duties, responsibilities, and membership held in the party," linked Durbay's death to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

In his social media post, Çelik used the following expressions:

"I can swear that the sadness caused by the relentless disease that Manisa Şehzadeler Mayor Gülşah Durbay contracted and which led to her death is the cause, but I cannot prove it; Özgür Özel, I do not think you are innocent in the death of our Mayor Gülşah."

Çelik deleted his post following the backlash. Responding to a social media user who insulted him, Çelik stated, "I am still of the same opinion, but we will meet regarding your insult."
