Second call from Koray Aydın to Akşener: 'An explanation is required regarding the developments that have caused IYI Party members to hang their heads in shame'

The former leader of the IYI Party Meral Akşener's meeting with the President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace, and the subsequent lack of information regarding the content of the meeting, continues to occupy the political agenda.

IYI Party Ankara Deputy Koray Aydın, who had previously published a lengthy statement, had called on Akşener to disclose the content of the meeting.

Aydın stated, "It is also thought-provoking that the meeting took place during a period when constitutional discussions were being held," he had said.

While Koray Aydın's call remained unanswered, Meral Akşener released a statement in recent days, but she did not address the content of her meeting with Erdoğan in that statement either.

SECOND CALL

Finally, a new move came from Koray Aydın. Releasing a two-page statement, Aydın addressed not only Akşener this time but also the IYI Party leadership.

Aydın stated, "It is essential and mandatory for our current party leadership to invite the Founding Chair of the IYI Party and Founder Board Member, Ms. Meral Akşener, to make a statement as soon as possible regarding the developments that have made IYI Party members hang their heads in shame for a week."

Koray Aydın's statement is as follows:

Eight days have passed since Ms. Meral Akşener visited our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the Palace in her capacity as the 'Former Chair of the IYI Party,' and one week has passed since our call for Ms. Akşener and Mr. Erdoğan to 'explain the subject and content of the meeting.'

Following the IYI Party leadership's failure to respond to the meeting in a timely manner, approximately 26 hours after the meeting, I made a statement with all my good intentions and sincerity, as a Founding Board Member and an elected Deputy of the IYI Party, to protect the party's institutional identity.

With this statement, I wanted to be the voice of the feelings of millions who have dedicated their hearts to the IYI Party, and I am pleased to state that I have received countless positive feedback, comments, and messages of support.

If anyone else who still maintains a membership bond with the IYI Party, like Ms. Meral Akşener, had gone to the Palace with the same procedure and timing, I would have made the same statement. Therefore, my criticism, reaction, and warning regarding the meeting are not personal, but principled.

What was discussed in the meeting is unknown to the IYI Party family, which has unconditionally supported Ms. Akşener for years, our party's current management, the Turkish nation, and the public.

It is impossible for us to accept this situation as normal or to ignore it. Because it is precisely this series of 'unanswered questions' that has put the IYI Party in this difficult situation today.

It is impossible for Ms. Akşener's statement—which denied claims that the meeting at the Palace was related to a file currently in the judiciary and reports that she had opened an office in Ankara, yet failed to say a single word about the subject and content of the meeting—to satisfy IYI Party members, our nation, and the public.

On the other hand, the irresponsible and scandalous statements made by Ms. Akşener's circle regarding this meeting have literally added insult to injury.

In these unserious and contradictory statements, phrases such as 'If a Vice Presidency offer is made, it will be evaluated,' 'If Akşener is expelled, there will be no IYI Party left,' 'Ms. Meral has no obligation to inform the IYI Party,' and 'The IYI Party is afraid of Meral Akşener' were used.

With all my political experience, I state clearly and unequivocally that this meeting, and the tone and sentences subsequently used by Ms. Akşener's circle, have caused great harm to the IYI Party.

The wounds sustained by the IYI Party, which millions have worked for, supported, and voted for, are unfortunately not limited to this meeting alone.

The IYI Party has suffered very serious wounds due to wrong decisions taken during processes that began with the district and provincial congresses before the last ordinary convention and continued with the primary elections, which were the scene of various injustices and illegalities before the general elections.

Subsequently, extremely flawed strategies were implemented in the general elections.

The attitude and policies displayed in the last local elections further accelerated the loss of trust in the IYI Party. Our deputies, General Administrative Board members, founders, and provincial and district chairs, who said no to the "free and independent" decision taken in the local elections and were in favor of cooperation, even if limited to Ankara and Istanbul, were marginalized, and their justified objections were ignored.

Ultimately, the rhetoric, actions, and policies that carried water to the government's mill in the last local elections—and the language and tone used in the election campaign, which was practically built on insults against the Mayors of Ankara and Istanbul—were categorically rejected by our nation, and the IYI Party experienced the greatest election defeat in its history.

The IYI Party, which had been favored by voters as the most sincere and reliable opposition party since the day it was founded, has unfortunately rapidly lost this characteristic due to these flawed policies. To put it literally, the mountains our nation trusted were covered in snow.

While the IYI Party is seeking ways to reorganize and recover, the visit to the Palace made by the Founding Chair Ms. Akşener without the party's knowledge has brought with it serious anxiety, concern, and fractures.

The fog surrounding the reason, subject, and content of the meeting has yet to clear.

The failure to take the necessary steps to protect the party's corporate identity in a proper, sufficient, timely, and decisive manner has deeply disappointed not only me but the entire IYI Party family.

Our colleagues who made sacrifice after sacrifice to establish the IYI Party are waiting for a definitive solution.

In an environment where a deputy expressing their opinion in a closed-door meeting is considered grounds for expulsion, the fact that no explanation has been provided regarding the content of a closed-door meeting held at the Palace wounds sincere consciences.

It is essential and vital that our current party management invites the IYI Party Founding Chair and Founder Board Member, Ms. Meral Akşener, to make a statement as soon as possible regarding the developments that have caused IYI Party members to hang their heads in shame for a week.

As I stated in my previous announcement: 'In the eyes and hearts of the members of the IYI Party, which is a noble movement of rebellion against the AK Party government to defend the rights and laws of the oppressed, those whose rights have been usurped, and those condemned to hunger and misery, photos of reconciliation and softening with the government will never be accepted.'

I present these warnings, which I have been consulting on for days with hundreds of my colleagues, as the common opinion of IYI Party members to the pure conscience of the public and the noble Turkish nation.
