Second hearing of the 'baby killer' Newborn Gang trial begins: Flash request from defense attorneys

In the second session of the trial involving the leaders and members of the 'Newborn Gang,' who gained illicit profits by referring babies to hospitals they had agreements with and caused their deaths through negligent behavior in Istanbul, the lawyer for defendant İlker Gönen has filed a motion for the recusal of the court panel.

The second session of the trial involving 47 defendants, 26 of whom are in custody, who are accused of being leaders and members of the 'Newborn Gang' that gained illicit profits by referring babies to hospitals they had agreements with and caused their deaths through negligent behavior in Istanbul, has begun.

The hearing, held by the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court in the courthouse conference hall, was attended by some of the detained and non-detained defendants and the lawyers for the parties.

During the hearing, the lawyer for defendant İlker Gönen stated that photographs of the investigation prosecutor and the trial prosecutor together had been shared on social media.

The defense attorneys claimed that a fair trial was not being conducted and filed a motion for the recusal of the court panel. The hearing was adjourned for 30 minutes for the requests to be evaluated.
