Security measures continue at the apartment building where the nightclub fire occurred in Gayrettepe

Police security measures remain in place at the apartment building in Istanbul's Gayrettepe district, where a fire resulted in the deaths of 29 people.

Following the fire that killed 29 people at the nightclub operating on the basement levels of a 16-story building on Gönenoğlu Street, off Yıldız Posta Avenue in Gayrettepe, the street that had been closed to traffic for security reasons has been reopened.

Police teams stationed at the nightclub on the avenue and at the apartment entrance on the back street are controlling access.

SHORT-TERM PERMISSION TO ENTER APARTMENTS

While entry to the nightclub is prohibited, residents who were evacuated from the building, which has had its electricity and natural gas cut off, are able to enter their apartments for short periods to retrieve their belongings after presenting their identification and proof of residence to the police.

While the fire department's report on the incident has not yet been completed, the report prepared by municipal teams following their assessment of the building's earthquake risk status is expected to be released to the public in the coming days.
