Security measures increased ahead of Eid al-Adha

With the approach of the Eid al-Adha holiday, comprehensive preparations have been made to reduce potential traffic congestion on highways. In a statement made by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the measures taken across the country's transportation network were shared with the public. "Orange teams" will be in the field on a 24/7 basis at transportation points that will be monitored in real-time.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that teams will be on duty on the most frequently used highways and routes where congestion may occur throughout the holiday period. It was emphasized that 18 regional directorates, 123 branch offices, 16 tunnel maintenance operations, 25 highway maintenance operations, and 17 build-operate-transfer maintenance operations across Turkey will continue uninterrupted inspection and surveillance activities during the holiday. Information obtained through sensors, cameras, and systems used for real-time data collection will be evaluated instantly at the General Directorate of Highways Intelligent Transportation Systems Center.

The statement underscored that various measures have been taken to ensure that drivers can complete their journeys safely and peacefully throughout the holiday. It was stated that, except in cases of necessity, road construction, maintenance, and repair work will be paused in areas where such work is ongoing. It was reported that checks of existing traffic signs and signaling devices have been completed, deficiencies have been addressed, and worn-out signs have been replaced. As part of the security measures, it was stated that additional warning signs have also been placed in areas with a risk of flooding due to precipitation.

In his warnings to drivers, Minister Uraloğlu said, "Traffic safety is our collective responsibility. Obeying speed limits, wearing seat belts, and not using mobile phones while driving are of vital importance. It is important for drivers to pay attention to warning signs and flaggers in sections where road construction and maintenance work is ongoing. The density that occurs on the same days and hours during holiday departures and returns increases the traffic load on some routes. Citizens will be able to follow real-time changes in road conditions from the 'Road Conditions' section on the official website of the KGM."
