In the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep, Mayor Umut Yılmaz, who switched from the CHP to the AKP, changed the name of the local City Restaurant (Kent Lokantası) to People's Restaurant (Halk Lokantası). This decision by Yılmaz sparked a reaction from CHP municipal council members.

CRITICISM FROM A CHP COUNCIL MEMBER

Şehitkamil Municipality CHP Council Member Ersin Atar expressed his reaction to the name change in a statement on his social media account. Atar stated that the City Restaurant was a symbol of the CHP's social municipalism approach and criticized the change of the name following Yılmaz's move to the AKP.

"A CITY RESTAURANT COULD NOT REMAIN WHERE THERE IS ILL-GOTTEN GAIN"

Atar said the following in his statement:

"The Mayor of Şehitkamil had opened City Restaurants while he was in the CHP. When the mayor switched to the AKP, his first act was to change the name of the City Restaurant to People's Restaurant. In any case, the name City Restaurant, which is identified with the CHP, did not suit those restaurants; while all City Restaurants in Turkey are built with lawful money, the restaurants opened by the Şehitkamil Municipality were built with ill-gotten money. It was spot on to change the name of the City Restaurant in a place where there is ill-gotten gain."
