A verdict has been reached in the trial of a woman in South Korea who brutally killed and hid her 2 babies.
The Suwon District Court sentenced the woman to 8 years in prison for strangling her 2 babies, born in 2018 and 2019, when they were only 1 day old and hiding their bodies in a refrigerator.
While the woman's lawyer requested that she be tried for the crime of “infanticide,” which carries a lighter sentence than murder, the court rejected this request.
DEFENSE WAS KEEPING THEM IN THE REFRIGERATOR FOR A FUNERAL
The announced verdict emphasized that it was unacceptable for the defendant to kill helpless living beings who needed her when they were only 1 day old.
The defendant's defense that she did not hide the bodies and wanted to keep them in the refrigerator for a funeral was also not accepted.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
A woman in her 30s living in the city of Suwon, South Korea, had strangled her 2 babies born in 2018 and 2019 and hidden their bodies in a refrigerator.
After it was noticed that the births appeared in hospital records but not in population registration records, a search was conducted at the suspect's home in June of last year.
SHE TOLD HER HUSBAND SHE HAD AN ABORTION
During the search, the lifeless bodies of the 2 babies were found in the refrigerator.
It was revealed that the suspect, who said she committed the murders because she could not take care of her other 3 children aged 12, 10, and 8 due to economic difficulties, had told her husband that she had an abortion.
