Sentence requested for prosecutor who shot and wounded female judge: Prison time

An indictment has been prepared against Muhammed Çağatay Kılıçarslan, a prosecutor serving at the Anatolian Courthouse, who shot female judge Aslı Kahraman at the 23rd Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice.

The indictment seeks a prison sentence ranging from 20 years and 2 months to 42 years and 3 months for prosecutor Kılıçarslan on 5 separate charges.

An armed attack occurred on January 13 at the 23rd Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice. Female judge Aslı Kahraman was shot by prosecutor Muhammed Çağatay Kılıçarslan, who serves at the Anatolian Courthouse.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the prosecutor was taken into custody on charges of "attempted murder." While the judge, who was wounded in the groin and underwent surgery, is not in life-threatening condition, it was learned that prosecutor Kılıçarslan served in the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Bureau for the Prevention of Violence Against Women between 2022 and 2024.

Request for up to 42 years and 3 months in prison

An indictment was prepared against the prosecutor seeking between 20 years and 2 months to 42 years and 3 months in prison for the crimes of "attempted intentional murder against a woman, violation of workplace immunity by using force and threats, armed and chain-offense threats, and unlawful acquisition of personal data."
