Seren Serengil's reaction to AKP's ban: 'People aren't speaking because they are afraid'

Former Beyaz TV employee Seren Serengil has reacted to the bandwidth throttling decision implemented following the detention of CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Arguing that many famous figures 'are not speaking because they are afraid,' Serengil stated that 'everything is being banned.'

Addressing Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, Seren Serengil spoke out against internet bans and criticized the government for 'banning everything.' While claiming that she is not being allowed to work on TV channels, Serengil also defended her stance against social media bans, the treatment of 'people out on the streets,' and the collection of stray animals. Serengil added that the government should treat citizens 'humanely.'

Sharing a video message on her social media account, Serengil claimed that many artists do not agree with the AKP and noted that most figures are silent because they are afraid. Stating that people in Turkey are 'not living freely,' Serengil emphasized that 'everything is being banned.'

Stating that slowing down the internet and the metro is irrational, Serengil expressed the following:

''We didn't hear 'don't do this, don't do that' from our parents this much. I mean, you don't want anything, you ban everything. Then you say, 'How freely you are living, is there anyone interfering with you?' Yes. There is someone interfering with me right now. You say, 'What are you doing on the street?' You say, 'Let the dog not be on the street, and you shouldn't be either.' You say, 'Don't write on social media either.'''

'I AM NOT BEING ALLOWED TO WORK RIGHT NOW'

''Many people do their jobs over the internet; you are slowing down the internet, you are slowing down the metro. You do this, you do that. I cannot understand why you are doing all of this. I mean, do you think people, many artists, business people, athletes are not speaking? Do you think they are not speaking because they agree with you?

No, they are not speaking because they are afraid. For example, I am not being allowed to work right now; no channel will let me work. I don't care, there are already disgraceful programs, I wouldn't want them anyway. But then, those who are on your side will find work, and those who are not on your side will not find work.

Those who oppose you will go to jail for inciting the public to hatred and enmity, they won't share what's happening on social media. They won't hold rallies, they won't express their opinions, dogs will be collected. We will sit at home.''

'TRY TO LOVE PEOPLE'

''I mean, for God's sake, can such a thing be? Can such a thing be? Please try to love people. Even if they are not like you. I have tried to love many people in my life who were not like me, and I did love them. You try it too. This lovelessness evokes evil.

I am a person who does not understand politics, whose political knowledge is truly zero. I even looked up your name (referring to Ali Yerlikaya) 10 times just to be able to say it. Because I don't care, and this is the first time in 20 years that I am shooting a video against you. It has become too much now!

My artist friends cannot speak, but know that everyone is of the same opinion. They are afraid they will lose their jobs. I don't care, someone has to say it. I am begging you, I won't explain whether I like the shape or form of your political war, but please treat us a little more humanely.''
