Sewer rat bites child sleeping at home: Blood was streaming down his face

The incident occurred in the Fevzi Çakmak neighborhood of Sincan. According to the information received, a sewer rat bit a child while he was sleeping in his home over the weekend. After his mother noticed the bite, the child was taken to the hospital, where he received a rabies vaccine and was placed on antibiotic treatment. It was learned that the family reported the situation to municipal teams, but no action was taken. It was stated that the rat disappeared after escaping into the home's bathroom.

"MY CHILD HAS EPILEPSY"

Stating that the sewer rat left serious bites on her child, mother Hasret Ermiş said, "We woke up to the sound of my son crying about 10-15 minutes before the morning call to prayer on Sunday. When we went to his room, blood was streaming down his face. There was bleeding we couldn't stop. After my husband went to him to calm my son down, I went back to the room to change his sheets and saw the sewer rat. It came out from under the bed and went under the radiator. It ran away again when I screamed. I closed the doors to the rooms. My child has epilepsy. We immediately went to Bilkent City Hospital in case he experienced any complications from a bite. While leaving, I checked the doors again so that if it was in one room, it wouldn't pass into others and do anything. Later, I saw it in the bathroom. I closed the bathroom door. The bathroom drain was open, and the balcony drain was also open. We think the rat came from these two places. When we returned home 3-4 hours later, it wasn't in the bathroom. It had escaped and left. It bit and scratched my child's cheek and eyelid. When we went to the hospital, they injected a special medication into his face to prevent infection because the wounds were open. He was given a rabies vaccine. He will receive 4 more doses of the rabies vaccine. They gave him antibiotic treatment for his wounds. We have taken our own precautions at home in case it comes back, to put the children's minds at ease," she said.

"NO PEST CONTROL HAS BEEN DONE"

Stating that she spoke with the relevant municipal authorities to have pest control carried out, Ermiş said, "After we returned from the hospital on Sunday, I called the municipal teams. They told me they were creating a request, and I received a message saying my request had been created. But today is the 3rd day and no pest control has been done. We experienced this with our child, and we don't want other people to experience it. Because these are animals that carry diseases and live in filthy environments. We want the necessary pest control or whatever measures need to be taken to be carried out for this," she said.
