The Ministry of Justice's statistics on child sexual abuse have brought the country's shameful picture to light.

According to a report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün, the total number of cases in criminal courts in 2023, including those carried over from 2022, exceeded 30 thousand.

In 2023, a total of 14 thousand 919 cases involving the crime of child abuse were concluded in criminal courts.

It was reported that the number of defendants in these cases was 16 thousand 472, and the number of alleged crimes was 18 thousand 739.

THOUSANDS OF ABUSE PERPETRATORS

In 2023, 7 thousand 88 people were sent to prison for the crime of child sexual abuse.

The sentences of 344 people tried for child abuse in criminal courts were deferred through the “suspension of the announcement of the verdict” practice. The number of those acquitted of child abuse was reflected in the statistics as 7 thousand 108. It was reported that the total number of cases within the scope of “child sexual abuse” in criminal courts was 31 thousand 216.

The number of people appearing as “defendants” in the files was recorded as 35 thousand 5. The average duration of cases opened for child sexual abuse was also shared in the data. Accordingly, the time taken to conclude child abuse cases, which was 299 days in 2019, was 426 days, 304 days, 311 days, and 321 days in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively.
