A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir yesterday evening. Following this tremor, which caused panic in the Marmara and Aegean regions, experts have begun to evaluate potential risks.

Prof. Dr. Osman Bektaş stated in a post on social media that the earthquake took place in the region known as the Uşak earthquake cluster. Drawing attention to past earthquakes in this area, Bektaş emphasized that Manisa, in particular, could be at risk.

WARNING FOR MANISA

Prof. Dr. Bektaş noted that earthquakes with magnitudes between 6 and 7 occurred on the edges of the Uşak fault block, formed by the Simav and Gediz faults, in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1995, and 2002, and that these earthquakes were caused by stress transfer with a delay of several years. Bektaş issued a warning, saying, "Pay attention to the block edges, especially to the west, Manisa!"
