A surprise name was present at this week's AKP group meeting. Leyla Alaton, one of the prominent executives of Alarko Holding, sat with AKP deputies at the meeting. It was observed that right next to Alaton was Prof. Dr. Sadettin Hülagü, a Kocaeli deputy and the doctor of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Alaton, who has recently come to the fore with her statements, had attracted public attention with her views, particularly regarding luxury consumption and business travel.
In a statement she made recently, Alaton used the phrases, "When you carry an expensive bag, it's like walking around with the price tag on it," and added, "I find this very shameful. I think it's an embarrassing thing. I always learned this etiquette from my mother; for example, if even a piece of jewelry shines brighter than you, if a person looks at your necklace before your face, you shouldn't wear it. I have never attributed power to anything I wear, carry, or put on."
Furthermore, stating that she avoids luxury preferences during business trips, Alaton had said, "Unless you are forced to buy them, expensive items are a great waste. For example, I will be going to Denizli shortly for a business trip; of course, I will fly economy class, what is the need for a special seat? These things seem meaningless to me."
Alaton being spotted with deputies at the AKP group meeting sparked curiosity in the corridors.
