She lost her life in the terror attack at the Istanbul Courthouse: Dilfiraz Karataş laid to rest

The body of Dilfiraz Karataş (57), who lost her life in the armed attack on a police checkpoint in front of the Istanbul Courthouse yesterday, was brought to the Bağcılar Cemevi.

At the funeral ceremony held there, Karataş's husband, son, and daughter accepted condolences.

The ceremony was attended by many people, including Karataş's relatives, as well as Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Bağcılar District Governor Abdullah Uçgun, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Şaban Yılmaz, Bağcılar Mayor Abdullah Özdemir, and CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik. Karataş, who was a housewife, was laid to rest at the Edirnekapı Cemetery after the ceremony held there.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR GÜL

Istanbul Governor Gül, in a statement to members of the press after the funeral ceremony, wished God's mercy upon Karataş and extended his condolences to her relatives.

Reminding that 2 of the 6 people injured in the attack were discharged yesterday, Gül said, "The treatment of our other 2 citizens, including 2 police officers, is continuing. Thank God, their condition is good."

Extending his "get well soon" wishes to the courthouse community and congratulating the police, Gül said, "I say get well soon to our nation. May God protect us from worse. My condolences to us all."

Upon being asked, "Is there an increase in the number of detentions?", Governor Gül stated that the process regarding this is ongoing and assessed, "Our courthouse is following this matter in the coming period. As you know, the fight against terrorism is a long process. As it was in previous periods, it will continue now and in the future, God willing. We need to wait with a little patience here."

Dilfiraz Karataş's cousin Muzaffer Yedigöl also said that their pain is immense.

Yedigöl stated, "Let's call it an accidental death. She was going to a 40th-day memorial meal for a relative. She gets off the Metrobus and finds herself in the middle of a clash. She was a beautiful person. She gives her children their breakfast in the morning and goes to Çağlayan and dies. I say my condolences to us all."

Expressing that they are at a loss for words, Yedigöl said, "She left behind a daughter who is a teacher, a grieving son who is a veterinarian, and a grieving father. She prepares breakfast for her children and goes to that memorial meal. Then she finds herself in the middle of a clash. Damn terrorism. The country must get rid of this situation now. No room should be given to a handful of marauders."
