Ship that ran aground in Sarıyer rescued: Disaster narrowly averted
The 147-meter container ship named "KAPPA," which drifted toward the shore off the coast of Sarıyer, ran aground just meters before hitting a waterfront mansion. Following the intervention of Coastal Safety teams, the ship was refloated and towed to a safe area.

Dangerous moments occurred during the night off the coast of Yeniköy, Sarıyer, in the Bosphorus. The 147-meter-long, Turkish-flagged container ship named "KAPPA" drifted toward the shore for reasons yet to be determined. The ship, which had gone out of control, ran aground just a short distance before it could have collided with a waterfront mansion on the coast.
Upon notification, teams from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety and divers were dispatched to the area and began a comprehensive inspection of the ship. Following approximately 6 hours of damage assessment and technical evaluations, the rescue operation commenced.
The ship was refloated after being pulled from its position through the coordinated efforts of the Kurtarma-5, Kurtarma-6, and Kurtarma-8 tugboats, and it is planned to be removed from the Bosphorus and anchored at a safe location.
While maritime traffic in the Bosphorus was temporarily suspended for safety reasons during the ship's transit, traffic is expected to resume once the operations are completed.
