Preparations continue for the new party that Özgür Özel, who was removed from his position as CHP Chairman by a court decision, announced would be established. In this context, more than 90 CHP deputies have signed on for the new party's founding board. If the signature process is completed, the party's founding petition could be submitted to the Ministry of Interior tomorrow.
Özel, who met with 74 provincial chairs—52 of whom were removed from office—as well as Party Assembly (PM) members removed by court order, members of the Presidential Candidate Office Board of Directors, and Central Executive Board (MYK) members, held meetings on the steps to be taken.
Following the closed group meeting held today, deputies signed for the founding board in the CHP Group Management Hall. It was learned that over 90 deputies have signed for the founding board.
It was stated that some individuals who had signed for a convention following the absolute nullity decision and who support Özgür Özel do not wish to join the new party and prefer to remain in the CHP. In this context, some deputies met with Özel and shared this information with him directly.
COMPLETION OF THE SIGNATURE PROCESS EXPECTED
If the signature process for the founding board is completed today, it is planned for the deputies to resign and for the founding petition to be delivered to the Ministry of Interior tomorrow. If the signature process is not completed, the petition will be submitted on Monday, July 27.
REFERENCE TO FRIDAY PRAYER
Özgür Özel, who left the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) at 17:15 following his meetings, is expected to perform Friday prayers at the Hacı Bayram-ı Veli Mosque tomorrow. The Friday prayer that Özel will perform is being interpreted as a reference to the Friday prayer performed by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at the Hacı Bayram-ı Veli Mosque before beginning the parliamentary proceedings on April 23, 1920.
