Critical statement from Sırrı Süreyya Önder's doctor! 'The heart recovers and then stops again'
Cardiologist Prof. Dr. Bilal Boztosun has issued a statement regarding the health status of DEM Party member Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who underwent a 10-hour surgery after being hospitalized following a heart attack. Stating that Önder's condition was critical upon arrival at the hospital, Boztosun said, "Our colleagues performed all necessary interventions. There was some recovery, but then he would fall into distress again. The heart recovers and then stops again. The necessary interventions are being carried out."

Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Imralı Delegation member Sırrı Süreyya Önder was hospitalized last night after suffering a heart attack.
Önder, who was taken into surgery around 23:30, was moved to intensive care following a 10-hour operation.
His doctor, Cardiologist Prof. Dr. Bilal Boztosun, made critical statements regarding Önder's health status during a live broadcast on A Haber.
Highlights from Boztosun's statements are as follows:
'THE VESSEL RUPTURES'
"When Sırrı Bey came to us, his aorta was around 4.6, 4.7. We can wait until it reaches 5.5. However, when sudden stress, tension, high blood pressure, and some other risk factors come into play, even at 4.6 or 4.7, the aorta—the main vessel exiting the heart—can tear. Depending on how far this tear extends, if it reaches the vessels going to the brain, it causes loss of consciousness; if it tears down to the kidneys, it causes kidney failure; if it reaches the intestinal vessels, it becomes a life-threatening situation depending on where and how much of the main vessel in our body is torn. Sometimes, unfortunately, the vessel ruptures along with that tear. Unfortunately, it results in undesirable events.
'HE FIRST FELL ILL AT THE PARLIAMENT'
It started with him falling ill at the Parliament. There was a temporary loss of consciousness at the Parliament, and he was closely monitored in Ankara afterward. We wondered why this clot went to the brain. A temporary incident had occurred. When he came to us in Istanbul, a detailed investigation was conducted. In the investigation, we took a CT scan of the aorta. We checked if there was any blockage in the heart vessels. The heart vessels were perfectly clean.
'WE WARNED HIM STRICTLY'
There was no heart narrowing for his age. However, the aorta was measured at around 4.6-4.7. Later, a mass was detected in the pancreas. Afterward, we worked with the necessary doctors and colleagues regarding this mass and the aorta. We decided to monitor him for the aorta. We warned him strictly. It needs to be followed up at certain intervals. How fast is the 4.6-4.7 growing? If it is growing rapidly toward 4.8-4.9, it means it could tear at any moment.
In other words, if your 4.6 became 4.7 after 3 years, this does not scare us. But if 4.6 becomes 4.7-4.8 after 3 months, if it shows signs of growth in a short time, this means it could burst at any moment. It means this vessel could tear. We warned him strictly. We told him he needs to monitor his weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.
'THE HEART RECOVERS AND THEN STOPS AGAIN'
After the necessary interventions were performed, it was a long surgery. In such cases, the length of the surgery is not important at all. I hope the outcome is good. His condition was very critical when he arrived. Our colleagues performed all necessary interventions. There was some recovery, but then he would fall into distress again. The heart recovers and then stops again. The necessary interventions are being carried out.
'THE FIRST 24 HOURS ARE VERY IMPORTANT'
Interventions were made with some devices to stabilize him. The surgery continued until morning. What matters is the period after the surgery. The first 24 hours are the most important period. The heart recovering, stabilizing, the rhythm correcting—the heart is currently receiving intensive support. The repair of this torn part, the heart needing constant support several times, the correction of this rhythm—believe me, this period does not scare us. As long as the end is good."
