CHP Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat was arrested on January 17, 2025, on charges of 'membership in a criminal organization,' 'rigging tenders,' and 'illicit enrichment.'
The ongoing investigation has now extended to Akpolat's family. Most recently, Akpolat's sister-in-law, Çiğden Yankılıç Kangal, was detained within the scope of operations targeting a criminal organization led by Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who has turned state's evidence.
