Smartwatch saves a life

A Lithuanian tourist who became trapped after falling from a canoe on the Franklin River in Australia, resulting in their leg getting stuck in rocks, was rescued after a 20-hour operation that required the amputation of their leg, following an emergency signal sent by their smartwatch.

THE CANOEING ADVENTURE ENDED BADLY

The canoeing adventure of a 65-year-old Lithuanian tourist visiting Australia on the Franklin River in the state of Tasmania ended badly. The tourist, who was canoeing with friends, lost their balance and fell into the water. After being swept away, the tourist became stranded in the area with their leg trapped in rocks. Search and rescue teams were dispatched to the area after the tourist's smartwatch sent an emergency distress signal one hour later. The difficult rescue operation for the Lithuanian tourist lasted approximately 20 hours. The teams, who decided that the tourist's leg had to be amputated, managed to rescue the tourist after long efforts.

TOURIST'S CONDITION IS CRITICAL

It was learned that the condition of the tourist, who was rescued after their left leg was amputated, is critical.
While the 10 friends who were canoeing with the tourist were evacuated from the area, an investigation into the incident has been launched.
