In a statement issued by the IBB's AKOM, it was noted that sleet and brief, intense snow showers have been affecting Istanbul since yesterday evening.
The statement reported that due to the precipitation, which continued intermittently throughout the night, snow depth was measured at 2 to 5 centimeters in the higher parts of Silivri and Çatalca, and that the precipitation is expected to continue today.
The statement further explained that snow showers are expected this afternoon in the western parts of the European Side, specifically the Arnavutköy, Silivri, Çatalca, and Büyükçekmece districts, as well as in the higher parts of the Anatolian Side, including the Çekmeköy, Şile, and Beykoz districts, while other areas will experience sleet and brief snow showers.
The statement warned that the precipitation, which will continue until tomorrow noon, will mostly be in the form of sleet, but may briefly intensify and occur as sudden snow showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.
It was reported that the IBB has taken measures against any potential negative impacts.
