The General Directorate of Meteorology announced in its assessment yesterday that the long-awaited snowfall in Istanbul will occur on Monday. Furthermore, the MGM issued a heavy rainfall warning, noting that temperatures will continue to remain above seasonal norms for some time.

However, it announced that heavy rainfall is expected in Istanbul, the western districts of Balıkesir, the eastern parts of Antalya, the surroundings of Osmaniye, the western parts of Hatay, as well as the surroundings of Ankara, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Yozgat, and Sivas.

A strong wind warning was issued for the Marmara Region and the inland parts of the North Aegean.

In the assessment made for the week of January 19-25 in the MGM's post, the statement included: "It is estimated that air temperatures, which generally hover above seasonal norms, will decrease significantly starting from the northwestern parts as of the weekend, and will drop to around or, in some places, below seasonal norms in the northern, inner, and western parts."
