Social Insurance Law amendment accepted and enacted: Data of applicants can be processed

The General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) held deliberations on the Draft Law on Amendments to the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law and Certain Other Laws. The proposal was accepted and enacted.

According to the regulation, the data of those who apply to receive health services may be processed as required by the health services. 

Except for emergency cases, services will be provided within the working hours requested by the relevant family physician and approved by the local health administration, provided that they are not less than 40 hours per week, within the criteria determined by the Ministry.

International students who are granted scholarships by the decision of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities or the International Students Evaluation Board will be considered general health insurance holders for the duration of their scholarship status. 

General health insurance premiums will be 4 percent of the determined lower limit of earnings subject to premiums.

According to the draft law, which also includes regulations regarding General Health Insurance (GSS), the collection of unpaid GSS premiums belonging to the period before January 1, 2015, as well as ancillary receivables such as late payment penalties and late payment interest, will be waived.

Among insured individuals whose insurance coverage began before December 31, 2008 (inclusive) and who are employed by one or more employers under a service contract, those with a loss of working capacity between 40 percent and 49 percent will be eligible for an old-age pension provided they have 18 years of insurance duration and 4,100 days of premium payments, while those with a loss of 50 percent to 59 percent will be eligible provided they have 16 years of insurance duration and 3,700 days of premium payments.
