Somali President's son Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud struck motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer from behind with his car. Göçer, who was severely injured, passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment.
Following the incident, Mohamud was released, and a travel ban was imposed.
Most recently, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in a letter sent to the Duty Magistrate Judge, stated that the suspect has a record of leaving the country and issued an arrest warrant.
The letter included the following statements:
"As it is understood that the suspect, whose clear identification and alleged crime are written below, cannot be reached and that the suspect has a record of leaving the country, it is requested on behalf of the public that an ARREST WARRANT be issued for the suspect in accordance with Article 98/1 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK) No. 5271,
That when apprehended, he be brought to our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office within 24 hours from the moment of apprehension; if he cannot be brought within this time, he be brought via the SEGBIS system by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office where he was apprehended, or if this is not possible, by the nearest Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; and that it be specified in the arrest warrant and apprehension order that HIS STATEMENT BE TAKEN AND THAT HE NOT BE RELEASED AFTER HIS STATEMENT IS TAKEN, SO THAT THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR CONDUCTING THE INVESTIGATION CAN EVALUATE THE REFERRAL STATUS."
HIS LAWYER HAD MADE A STATEMENT
Yunus Emre Göçer's lawyer, Iyaz Çimen, had made statements to 12punto.com.tr regarding the matter and expressed that they were expecting an arrest. Stating that the course of the investigation is currently progressing in their favor, Lawyer Iyaz Çimen had said:
“Of course, we have obtained a travel ban. Following this, we are expecting detention. As a matter of fact, this detention should have happened in the first place. Because a situation arises that carries a vital risk and, as a result, changes the nature of the crime from injury to death. However, we clearly expect a conviction at the end of the process. We have no doubt about that.”
FIRST ASSESSMENT FROM HIS LAWYER AFTER THE PROSECUTOR'S STATEMENT
Göçer's lawyer, Iyaz Çimen, also made his first assessment to 12punto following the Prosecutor's letter.
Çimen said:
"I cannot say clearly that he has fled. There are entry and exit records, but at this stage, we do not know the final exit record. This is a decision that must be executed within 24 hours. We will all see the result of the decision."
