Spring weather in Istanbul is short-lived

While Istanbul is experiencing spring-like weather today with temperatures at 16 degrees, well above seasonal norms, the Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued warnings for the megacity. According to the statement from AKOM, winds from the south are expected to strengthen in Istanbul starting at 22:00 tonight, and the city will be affected by a strong storm starting tomorrow.

MAJOR DROP IN TEMPERATURE

AKOM announced that as of 08:00, heavy rain and, in some places, strong thunderstorms will be seen across Istanbul. It was also stated that temperatures will drop by up to 10 degrees in the coming days, marking a return to winter conditions. Residents of Istanbul were warned to be prepared for this change in weather.

RAIN EXPECTED OVER THE WEEKEND, SNOW ON MONDAY

According to AKOM's daily report, a strong rainstorm will be effective in Istanbul on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, sleet is expected. The weather conditions in the city indicate that winter is returning in a harsh manner.

TEMPERATURES TO DROP ACROSS THE COUNTRY

According to data from the Turkish State Meteorological Service, air temperatures, which have been hovering above seasonal norms across the country, will show a significant drop on Friday. Snowfall is expected in many cities.
