State Artist Nevzat Atlığ has passed away

State Artist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Atlığ has passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Bodrum.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Atlığ, the former conductor of the State Classical Turkish Music Choir who had been living in Bodrum since 2014, has passed away at Acıbadem Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for age-related health issues.

It was noted that Atlığ's funeral will be held in Istanbul.

WHO IS NEVZAT ATLIĞ?

He was born on October 14, 1925, in the Sarayköy district of Denizli, where his father, cavalry colonel and musician Nazmi Atlığ, was stationed. He was originally from Edirne. He learned the violin and music from his father. He graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine and specialized in radiology. He played the violin in the university choir, later becoming the conductor of this choir and the Director of Istanbul Radio (1955-1958).

While conducting the Istanbul Radio Small Choir, he was appointed as the conductor of the Classical Choir following the death of Mesut Cemil Bey in 1963. He held this position until 1976.
