Statement after the Kobani Case: DEM Party calls for gatherings in three provinces

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan is announcing the decisions taken following the Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting held after the verdicts in the Kobani Case at her party's headquarters.

Stating that this is a case of vengeance and retaliation, Ayşegül Doğan said that the statements made by the party regarding the Kobani Case since the beginning of the trial have not received sufficient coverage in the public eye.

"IT HAS NO LEGAL BASIS"

Stating that the court's rulings have no legal basis, Doğan asked, "How can we talk about softening and normalization in such an environment?" Doğan said that even the instructed courts could not establish a link between those who lost their lives in the Kobani protests and those being tried in the case.

Ayşegül Doğan also said that the social media posts made by government officials following the verdicts are an indication that the case is being pursued with political motives.

"REVENGE IS BEING TAKEN FOR THE RESOLUTION PROCESS"

"The philosophy of a party engaging in politics is being put on trial; revenge is being taken for the resolution process," said Doğan, continuing her remarks as follows:

"We invite the entire public to think about whether HDP politicians would be in prison today if the opposition had put up a more united and collective struggle while arriving at this point. The only power that can prevent these politicians from being held hostage inside for so many years is our power of solidarity. The only power that will bring Yüksekdağ and Demirtaş to freedom is to escalate the struggle for equality and freedom for everyone.

Refusing to recognize this happens through struggle and by increasing our coming together. As Gültan Kışanak also said, there is a need for freedom, justice, and democracy. To ensure this, everyone who has been held in prisons unjustly and unlawfully for years must be released. Otherwise, it is impossible for us to talk about normalization or softening.

CALL FOR GATHERINGS IN ISTANBUL, ADANA, AND DIYARBAKIR

In the first stage, we are coming together tomorrow, saying 'democracy for everyone,' at 17:00 in Adana, 16:00 in Diyarbakır, and 17:00 at Esenyurt Square in Istanbul. If we do not raise our voices together, from Gezi to Can Atalay, much more difficult days await us. We invite everyone who has a demand for equality and freedom to these meetings. These meetings will continue. For us, this case is a new crossroads of struggle."
