The Kandilli Observatory reported that a 3.7-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Gürsu district of Bursa yesterday evening (December 30) at 23:43.
The earthquake was determined to have occurred at a depth of 13.1 kilometers.
IS IT A PRECURSOR TO A MAJOR EARTHQUAKE?
Recent earthquakes in the Marmara Region have brought the potential Istanbul earthquake back to the agenda. Whether these tremors are precursor earthquakes has become a subject of curiosity.
AHMET ERCAN: I DO NOT THINK IT IS A PRECURSOR
Following the earthquake in Bursa, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan made a statement on his social media account.
Ercan's post is as follows;
"The Gürsu-Kestel area is a focal point where I expect a medium-sized earthquake for Bursa. The 3.7-magnitude tremor, which occurred at a depth of 13 km at 23:43, geophysically indicates the location of the focus. However, I do not think it is a precursor. The construction in that location is poor."
