The investigation launched into Ayşe Barım, a manager for famous actors who has been in the spotlight over allegations of monopolization in the sector, has evolved into a Gezi Park investigation.
Barım, who is alleged to have been among the planners of the Gezi Park protests, was detained on charges of "attempting to abolish the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties."
Following Barım's detention, actors Halit Ergenç, Bergüzar Korel, Mehmet Günsur, Ceyda Düvenci, Nejat İşler, Rıza Kocaoğlu, and Nehir Erdoğan provided testimony as witnesses at the Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan as part of the investigation.
CHP leader Özgür Özel announced that they would be following the process of the Gezi Park investigation, which the AKP government has brought back to the agenda after 12 years. A response to Özel's words came from AKP's Hamza Dağ.
Making statements at the 7th Ordinary Congress of the AKP İzmir Women's Branch, Dağ said, "Some people are apparently uncomfortable that those responsible for the Gezi events are being held accountable today. The CHP Chairman expressed his discomfort in İzmir regarding the Gezi events and said, 'We are following the process.' Did those who committed vandalism, burned, and destroyed things that day think they would get away with it?
The law will hold them accountable when the time comes. We remember those days very well. We know well what they burned and destroyed in Çankaya. Just as those who organized this are being tried today as evidence emerges, those who organized this will always face trial within the statute of limitations. You caused billions of dollars in damage to this country, and you were comfortable because you were not held accountable for it. But if the account for this was settled yesterday as evidence emerged, it will continue to be settled before the law from now on as well," he stated.
