Statement from AKP's Tuğrul Türkeş ahead of Sinan Ateş trial: My father's party cannot be identified with this crime

AKP Ankara MP Tuğrul Türkeş issued a written statement on his social media account ahead of the Sinan Ateş murder trial, which is set to begin on July 1.

The trial for the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş, who was assassinated in Ankara on December 30, 2022, will be held on July 1.

Ahead of the trial, which has captured public attention, AKP Ankara MP Tuğrul Türkeş, the son of MHP founder Alparslan Türkeş, issued a written statement.

Stating that he had been careful not to speak or comment on the Sinan Ateş murder, Türkeş said, “This matter is a serious criminal offense. There is no ideological side to this issue. The parties who want to exploit this issue also have no ideological aspect.”

Addressing the claim that “Ülkü Ocakları will surround the courthouse on July 1 and Özgür Özel will not be allowed to enter” in his statement, Türkeş said, “There is no ideological aspect to those who want to come in large numbers to the hearing starting on July 1, 2024, nor to those who do not want to let them in.”

"Turkish nationalism is not a party and/or stakeholder in this matter," said Türkeş, adding, "The Nationalist Movement Party (My Father's Party) cannot be identified with such a crime and the individual criminals who committed it. What should be put on the scales is not Turkish Nationalism and the MHP's corporate identity, but our slow-moving legal system and those who hinder it. Likewise, the People's Alliance and its valuable leaders are also free from these dirty criminal organizations. There is no political gain for the opposition in this chaos either. Let the common criminals be tried as they deserve."

The full text of Türkeş’s statement titled “This statement is a matter of conscience” is as follows:

“A year and a half has passed since the murder of Sinan Ateş. During this time, despite all my sadness, I have been careful not to speak or make any comments.

The parties involved, and even those who are not on any side, are trying to take advantage of every opportunity, from family visits to channel hopping.

On July 1, 2024, this case is finally beginning to be heard, with all its shortcomings and missing elements.

As of the point reached, the situation is as follows.

1- Sinan Ateş was murdered as a result of an assassination on Friday, December 30, 2022, leaving behind a grieving wife and two orphaned children who will grow up longing for their father. 2- This matter is a serious criminal offense.

3- There is no ideological side to this issue.

4- The parties who want to exploit this issue also have no ideological aspect. 5- There is no ideological aspect to those who want to come in large numbers to the hearing starting on July 1, 2024, nor to those who do not want to let them in.

6- My article titled RAMPANT NATIONALISM, which I penned on January 17, 2021, out of concern for what was happening at the time, was precisely to draw attention to this bad trend in the world and in our country, and to try to prevent it to some extent.

7- Likewise, in many speeches, I emphasized the importance of the rule of law and remaining committed to the law.

I expressed that a modern Turkey with a high level of prosperity; that is, the goal that nationalists desire, should desire, and want to reach; and therefore the "IDEAL" (ÜLKÜ) can be achieved through this path.

8- Today, leaving aside all titles, as a simple Turkish Citizen and Turkish Nationalist, I would like to draw attention to the following points;

A- Turkish nationalism is not a party and/or stakeholder in this matter.

B- The Nationalist Movement Party (My Father's Party) cannot be identified with such a crime and the individual criminals who committed it.

C- What should be put on the scales is not Turkish Nationalism and the MHP's corporate identity, but our slow-moving legal system and those who hinder it.

D- Likewise, the People's Alliance and its valuable leaders are also free from these dirty criminal organizations.

E- There is no political gain for the opposition in this chaos either. Let the common criminals be tried as they deserve.

Let it be known to those who want to stir up the country by using this case as an excuse on July 1, 2024, to exhausted politicians who hope for chaos because they do not produce policy, to gangsters who are far from ideology but want to appear ideological, and to those who are eager to interfere with the country's administration.”
